We are pleased to announce an exhibition Superflat memory by Margaux Derhy on July 26 (Thu) to 28 (Sat), as a result of her activity during her stay at Studio Kura.
Born in December 1985 in France, Margaux Derhy started to paint at the age of 17. Self educated, she joined in 2015 the 3 years intensive cycle of Ateliers Beaux-Arts of the city of Paris (ABA) with Gonzalo Belmonte. In 2017, she spent several months in South Africa with a 3 months international artist residency at Greatmore Studios in Cape Town.
Her painting is figurative. It is worked from photographs, archives and personal photographs. Her major series of oils MEMOIRE VIVE is a re-appropriation of family archives that she exhumed with the desire to offer memories a new colour.
Here are some words from the artist herself.
I will show a serie of painting that will follow my last years interest about family memory but influenced by the textures, sounds, images, feelings, readings from this stay at Studio Kura in Japan. Also, the Superflat movement has been a deep inspiration in this new style developed here as an experimentation to go further and try new directions.
