私のStudio Kuraでの滞在は、シェイクスピアの戯曲「お気に召すまま」第3幕第2場からの引用に触発された進行中のプロジェクト「These Trees Shall be My Books（これらの木々が私の本となる）」の研究を締めくくります。このプロジェクトは、日本文化における木々への崇敬を理解し、学ぶことを目的としています。糸島やその周辺での散策と「収集」を通じて、私は御神木を探し求める旅を記録した包括的なインスタレーションとドローイングを制作しました。この作品は4月28日から豊島で展示される予定です。
Studio Kuraでのショーケース展示では、162枚のポストカードサイズの紙に描かれた大きな御神木の絵が展示されます。展示終了後、作品は分解され、登録された受取人に郵送されます。私はこれらの水彩画を「木々の指紋」と捉えており、私たちが世界に触れる場所と個性を示すものとしています。これらのパターンは、外部の宇宙と内側の宇宙を包括するマクロとマイクロのシステムで発生します。
My residency at Studio Kura concludes my research for the ongoing project titled “These Trees Shall be My Books,” inspired by a quote from Shakespeare’s play “As You Like It,” Act 3 Scene 2. This project aims to understand and learn from the veneration of trees in Japanese culture. Through walking and “foraging” in Itoshima and beyond, I have created a comprehensive installation and drawings documenting my search for Goshinboku, or sacred trees. This work will be exhibited on Teshima Island starting from April 28th.
The Studio Kura showcase exhibition features a large Goshinboku painting on 162 postcard-sized pieces of paper. Upon the conclusion of the exhibition, the artwork will be dismantled and posted to registered recipients. I see these watercolor paintings as “fingerprints of the trees,” marking where we touch the world and mapping our individuality. These patterns occur in macro and microsystems, encompassing the external universe and the universe within.
