We are happy to announce While walking, an exhibition by Marijke Wijgerinck, as a result of her activity during her stay at Studio Kura.
Marijke Wijgerinck is based in Zoetermeer. She graduated at the former Academy of Fine Art and Art Education in Amersfoort. Since then she worked both as an artist and teacher of art. Her work is about skin, landscape and memories. She starts with the concept and uses materials that are fitting the stories she likes to tell. Often the location is part of the work.
Since 1992 she exhibited in The Netherlands and abroad like Belgium, Germany, Poland, India, Russia and China. She was commissioned for several art projects and permanent works of art.
Here are some words from the artist herself.
‘While walking’ I discovered grape branches and other natural materials to combine with Japanese paper. I try to figure out what kind of options this paper offers. Is it strong? Is it possible to work with it in a spatial way? Which glue is best? And more: are the paperworks going to dry this humid time of year? I also like the textures of the different materials. Will I use them as a kind of surface? Shall I make drawings on top of it? The walks are heading in different directions at the end of the first week here. I am curious how things will run.
