Announcing Danika van Kaathoven’s Exhibition “Pursuit of Motion 動きへの追求”

We are pleased to announce an exhibition Pursuit of Motion 動きへの追求 by Danika van Kaathoven on March 24 (Saturday) & 25 (Sun), as a result of her activity during her stay at Studio Kura.

Danika van Kaathoven completed her Bachelor in Product Design at ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem, the Netherlands.
She has a fascination for storytelling, poetry and the interplay between words and objects. In her work she dives into the world of everyday objects and observes and plays with their rules and interpretations to find new shapes and silhouettes that are hidden in our daily lives.

Here are some words from the artist herself.

The kimono – graceful and full of detail, incredibly poetic, ultimately Japanese.

Pursuit of Motion is a new series within an ongoing research of shapes and silhouettes. This time using the traditional Japanese kimono as a main source of inspiration, exploring the dynamics of its form but also analyzing the limits of its movement.

This is a pursuit of motion in the sense of diving into the past and present of the kimono, as well as playing with its silhouette in order to develop new wearables.
