Announcing Ashley Yeo Yakka’s Exhibition “Sensitivities / 紫陽花物語”

We are happy to announce Sensitivities / 紫陽花物語, an exhibition by Ashley Yeo Yakka, as a result of her activity during her stay at Studio Kura.

Ashley Yeo Yakka is a multidisciplinary artist based in Singapore. She completed her Masters in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art and Design from University of Arts, London in 2012. She has been included in numerous international group shows including the Art on Paper Biennial at Weatherspoon Museum, North Carolina USA and Ifa Gallery in Berlin, Germany. She also participates in international artist residencies including the Vermont Studio Center (USA, 2013), Arctic Circle Residency (Svalbard, 2014) and School of Visual Arts (USA, 2014).

Working through Drawing, Installation and Sculpture, her practice has been reflections from the epidemics of visual culture and the complexity of human condition, founded from private thoughts and ontological questioning. Encompassing drawings and art objects, she displays and deconstructs weariness and heaviness from a postmodern world, seeking to reconcile with cultural disconnection.

Here are some words from the artist herself.

Inspired by hydrangeas of the season, the artist will depict drawings and objects influenced from the landscapes around Studio Kura. Contemplating from rain, reclusion and reflections, she will present small works of studies that look into Japanese aesthetic use of space, colours and compositions.
