We are pleased to announce an exhibition waft stash shin wilt by Terrence Combos on February 24 (Saturday) & 25 (Sun), as a result of his activity during his stay at Studio Kura.
Terrence Combos (b. 1988) is an emerging artist based in Sydney, Australia, primarily working with painting and drawing. In 2015 he completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) at UNSW Art & Design, and is a current Master of Fine Arts candidate at Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney.
Terrence’s practice explores the interplay between abstraction and language, mediated by the grid. In his work, pattern-like compositions are formed using text, which is presented in varying states of concealment through disorienting colour relationships, dense pattern organisation and restricted typography.
Here are some words from the artist himself.
Each painting is formed using text that has been altered. The text used for this project comes from the artist statements of artists who worked at Studio Kura the month before I arrived. The first sentence of each statement is turned into an acronym, then the acronym is turned into an anagram. The text, now no longer recognisable as what it first was, is further concealed using a reductive grid format to guide the painting.
