We are pleased to announce an exhibition Sea Dreams by Maria Pääkkönen on March 24 (Saturday) & 25 (Sun), as a result of her activity during her stay at Studio Kura.
Maria Pääkkönen is a visual artist based in Helsinki, Finland. She finished her Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Arts Helsinki in 2016.
In 2016-2017 she was working in The Netherlands for 15 months as a participant of Jan van Eyck Academie’s residency program. The artist works with drawing, installation and durational drawing performance. She explores topics like impermanence, time, memory and nature through her main material, paper and it’s behavior and fragility. The memory-based drawings construct spaces and atmospheres that hover over the imaginary line between material and immaterial worlds.
Here are some words from the artist herself.
Walking on the beach
On the sand patterns made by the ocean waves
and sun dried seaweed
Passing by the mountain side
fog covering the mountain tops, rain coming
Back to the studio again
