Announcing Harry Copas’s exhibition “In hOmiyage To”

We are pleased to announce an exhibition “In hOmiyage To” by Harry Copas on January 25(Sat.) & 26(Sun.), as a result of his activity during his stay at Studio Kura.

Harry Copas is studying a BFA (Honours) at UNSW Art and Design and holds a Bachelor of Teaching from ACU. His work has been exhibited widely across Sydney and interstate in places such as Melbourne and Alice Springs. History – both personal and collective – form the basis of much of his work, and he uses humour and absurdity to investigate the overlooked or ignored through eclectic means.

Unwanted gifts, cross cultural perspectives and unlikely fusions – In hOmiyage To is a collection of objects, sounds, pictures and videos that explore the souvenir beyond the kitsch and mere tokenism. Various sites in the vicinity of Studio Kura have been activated by pieces that highlight unknown or forgotten aspects of Australia and Japan’s long relationship, as well as responses to the artists own experiences in Itoshima. The project dissociates itself of the traditional gallery space for a more holistic view of the residency program.
