Richard Talbot is a performer, academic and teacher with a background in Physical Theatre. He creates participatory performances, workshops and films with local authorities, museums, social agencies and universities. During his stay at Studio Kura, Richard will run a workshop alongside a marionette puppeteer, for local participants. The workshop will be an elementary exploration contrasting human and puppet movement. This is part of a wider collaboration between performers, puppeteers, professionals and amateur practitioners in the UK and Japan. Taking inspiration from The Adventures of Pinocchio the collaboration uses live performance, videos and photos to devise scenes for digital, hybrid and live-stream performance. In Itoshima Richard will be investigating the caves, coastline and sea as an environment and backdrop for the closing scenes of the classic story. Here Pinocchio is swallowed by a whale before being ejected onto a beach, where he is transformed into a ‘real’ boy.
