Rozana Lee is an Indonesian Chinese New Zealand artist who works across various mediums, including textile, painting, video and installation. She explores ideas related to migration, belonging, cross-cultural mobility and post-colonial identity. Based in Auckland, Lee holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Auckland (2018).
Lee has exhibited widely at public galleries and artist spaces throughout New Zealand.
She was recipient of the People’s Choice Award of National Contemporary Art Award (2021), the 3rd prize (2022) and the People’s Choice Award (2018) of Estuary Art & Ecology Award. Her works are held in private and public collections including Christchurch Art Gallery. She has undertaken artist residencies at Instinc, Singapore in 2016 and Making Space, Guangzhou in 2019. She participated in The Zhelezka Project: on the Tracks through Central Asia in 2023 and subsequently received a fellowship at the Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography, Leipzig, Germany in 2024.
During her residency at Studio Kura, she intends to learn more about Kasuri ikat patterns and create a body of works inspired by those findings.
