Vanessa Vien

Vanessa Vien (Canada) Residence: December 2019

Vanessa Vien is a digital illustrator from Canada, graduating from 3dsense Media school with a diploma in Concept Design and Illustration.
Her interest in art stemmed from the passion for creating both characters and worlds alike, exposed to her by numerous games and novels throughout childhood.

During her residency at Studio Kura, she intends to delve into the ambiance and environment of Fukuoka and weave it into her work. She also hopes to dabble in different areas of art, especially paper craft and traditional painting, to experiment and attempt to seamlessly blend them with her preferred medium.

Daniel Christian Saliem

Daniel Christian Saliem (Indonesia) Residence: December 2019

Daniel Christian Saliem is an aspiring concept artist wanting to work in the movie/game industry in the future. Recently graduated from 3DSense Media School, Singapore specializing in Concept Art & Illustration.

He is interested in doing keyframes, and concept designs for characters, creatures, vehicles, and props.

During his stay, Daniel is going to explore more of the country's culture, environments, and architecture to earn more inspiration for his artworks.

Jia Sheng

Jia Sheng (Singapore) Residence: December 2019

CJia Sheng is a digital illustrator from Singapore that recently graduated from 3dsense Media School in November 2019, specialising in Concept Design and Illustration.
It is only in recent years that he began his artistic journey, studying in a completely different field of Chemical Engineering before this.

Growing up, he finds joy in video games and animes, appreciating the tremendous efforts put into creating and developing the world in each story, thus sparking his journey on creating art.

During the stay at Studio Kura, he hopes to draw inspirations from the environment to create meaningful illustrations as well as learning more about the world of art.

Announcing Virginie Eudeline’s exhibition “Mei-chan in Fukuoka-land”

We are pleased to announce an exhibition Mei-chan in Fukuoka-land by Virginie Eudeline on November 23(Sat.) – 24(Sun.), as a result of her activity during her stay at Studio Kura.

Virginie Eudeline is a french artist living in Singapore. She graduated from 3D Sense Media School, Singapore, specializing in Concept Design and Illustration, in March 2019. After that, she was selected with other students to make a 3D animated short film (coming end of 2019), where she worked as a story artist and concept artist, and also explored the art of animation.
Her art interest is motivated by story telling, especially for children, whether making concept art or drawing illustration, or even better, storyboarding.

I would like to share my experience in studio Kura and Fukuoka in general through some illustrations. As I like to tell stories in my drawings, I created this little girl called Mei who is having fun in ‘Fukuoka-land’, hence the imaginative world where she belongs to.

Virginie is a french artist living in Singapore. She graduated from 3D Sense Media School, Singapore, specializing in Concept Design and Illustration, in March 2019. After that, she was selected with other students to make a 3D animated short film (coming end of 2019), where she worked as a story artist and concept artist, and also explored the art of animation.

Her art interest is motivated by story telling, especially for children, whether making concept art or drawing illustration, or even better, storyboarding.

She mostly works on digital media, but she also likes drawing traditional, trying different techniques she would like to explore during her residency and maybe discover others. She also wants to make the most of the beauty and characterics of the country to find inspiration for her stories and art.

Announcing Zeno Siew’s Exhibition “Emotions: Moments in life 感情の四季 人生の瞬間”

We are pleased to announce an exhibition Emotions: Moments in life 感情の四季 人生の瞬間 by Zeno Siew on January 26 (Sat) & 27 (Sun) , as a result of his activity during his stay at Studio Kura.

Zeno Siew is a motion graphics designer from Malaysia. He recently graduated from 3dsense Media School in Singapore with a Diploma in Animation. He has also graduated from Korea University in Seoul, where he studied Korean Language and Culture. He enjoys meeting people from different countries and cultures. His hobbies are travelling and photography. He likes to travel to different countries to get inspirations of art and design.

Our life is like a story. We will always have good and bad moments in our life. It is the ups and downs that makes our life interesting. There are good or bad, big or little, fulfilling or empty moments, and the definition can be different from person to person. In this exhibition, I want to show the different moments in life that is filled with various emotions, from my point of view.

Announcing Ivy Koh’s Exhibition “The Language of plants 植物の言葉”


We are pleased to announce an exhibition The Language of plants 植物の言葉 by Ivy Koh on January 26 (Sat) & 27 (Sun) , as a result of her activity during her stay at Studio Kura.

Ivy Koh is a Motion Graphics Designer from the sunny little island, Singapore.
She recently graduated with a Diploma in Animation (Motion Graphics) from 3DSense Media School. She enjoys doing both traditional and digital art. Her interest began in Secondary school, where she studied Art as one of her main subjects. Her works are passion-driven and enjoy experimenting with her digital designs, always learning and developing art with the use of technology.

During my stay in Itoshima, I’m amazed that there are a lot of different flowers blooming despite during Winter time.
I was inspired by the natural beauty of Itoshima and would like to combine the plants and houses in my work.

Announcing Jun You Ang’s Exhibition “Life in Itoshima 糸島での生活”

We are pleased to announce an exhibition Life in Itoshima 糸島での生活 by Jun You Ang on January 26 (Sat) & 27 (Sun) , as a result of his activity during his stay at Studio Kura.

Jun You Ang is a Motion Graphics Designer from Singapore. He recently graduated from 3dsense Media School in November 2018 with a Diploma in Animation (Motion Design). Before that, he had also studied at Republic Polytechnic in 2014 with a Diploma in Design for Interactivity, in which they are now known as Design for User Experience.

During my stay here at Itoshima, Studio Kura, I have explored and seen the areas and experiences their lifestyle. I am inspired by nature and culture here and truly enjoy the experience that I have and wish to show the places, culture, and lifestyle of Itoshima in my work.

Announcing Elsa Kwan’s Exhibition “Friends ともだち”

We are pleased to announce an exhibition Friends ともだち by Elsa Kwan on January 26 (Sat) & 27 (Sun) , as a result of her activity during her stay at Studio Kura.

Elsa Kwan is a motion graphics designer based in Singapore. She recently graduated from 3DSense Media School in November 2018 with a Diploma in Animation, with a specialisation in
Motion Design. She earlier graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts (Second Class Honours) in Animation Art. Elsa also worked as a Marketing Graphics Designer for a Japanese F&B organisation for two years.

Her creative work focuses on a range of 2D and 3D animation, and her particular interest is in character design and animation, cel animation, illustration as well as digital collage.

During my stay at Studio Kura, I enjoyed the time spent with my friends and have also made new friends. I would like to collect my memories and create character animations of the people I have been inspired by in Itoshima. I hope to show the warmth and friendly mood of the people here even in this cold winter.

Announcing Aniruddha Khanwelkar’s Exhibition “Tales from Far Lands”

We are pleased to announce an exhibition Tales from Far Lands by Aniruddha Khanwelkar on January 26 (Sat) & 27 (Sun) , as a result of his activity during his stay at Studio Kura.

Aniruddha Khanwelkar is an Illustrator and Graphic Designer based in India. He recently graduated from 3D Sense Media School, Singapore specializing in Concept Design and Illustrations in 2018.

His practices range from various digital and traditional tools to explore different ways to create compelling imagery. He is still exploring his style and field of work and plans to experiment his illustrative skills in various fields.

Visual development project for a graphic novel. This series of images is an imaginative take on the beautiful countryside of Fukuoka, through the eyes of a young artist who has a lot to grow. The artist hopes to capture the essence of the relaxed yet active lifestyle combined with several of the exotic locations and landmarks. Although one month isn’t enough to explore it all, hopefully, it can serve as a starting point to indulge in the Japanese culture and bring it forth in a fantastical manner.
