We are pleased to announce an exhibition twenty-seven by Seunghui Sim on January 27 (Saturday) & 28 (Sun), as a result of her activity during her stay at Studio Kura.
Seunghui Sim received BFA in Photography, and Fine Arts from College for Creative Studies, and currently, she is pursuing her MFA in photography at Hongik University. Her installation works and photographs are based on interests about how people’s memories and their relationship interact , and created by using reconstructed photos. She has participated in exhibitions such as Prelude, Full Grilz, Post Photo in Detroit, Seoul. Her works are in Convers, Valade Family Gallery and Detroit institute of Arts.
She talks about her own experiences of confusion between the distortion of memory and the actual facts through the medium of photography.
Here are some words from the artist herself.
Sim visualizes her experiences based on memories of her own relationships through photography. She depicts the complexity of loneliness, anxiety and unfamiliarity in her own family, school, and interpersonal relationship at the age of twenty seven. The images of photos and texts together will portray the memories distorted by complex emotions of both the past and present.
