We are pleased to announce an exhibition to dwell privately or in the open air by Yin Yue Chan on October 20 (Sat), 21 (Sun) and 27 (Sat), 28 (Sun), as a result of her activity during her stay at Studio Kura. This will be shown as a part of Itoshima International Art Festival 2018, Itoshima Arts Farm.
Yin Yue Chan (b.1996) is an interdisciplinary photographic artist currently based in Tokyo.
Born in Sydney, she studied philosophy and fine arts at the University of New South Wales Art & Design, Australia, paying particular interest to social, urban and architectural theory.
Here are some words from the artist herself.
Images have their own texture, weight, density, and temperature. I can recall the smell of tatami mats in the summer, and now they recollect the same colour of rice in their harvest. ‘to dwell privately or in the open air’ are new works that allude to the temporal and spatial nature of which these photographs were taken, but of which are slightly altered according to the structure and light of the room.
Here, a wall slides over to the next to become a door, and a stream runs beneath bridges of simple concrete, round like lobes. I know distance from this bridge to the next by the storage house over there. The children here know it better, and the mountains knew this distance before me.
