Announcing Elisabeth Belliveau’s Exhibition “Itoshima Still Life”

We are pleased to announce an exhibition Itoshima Still Life by Elisabeth Belliveau on June 23 (Sat) & 24 (Sun), as a result of her activity during her stay at Studio Kura.

Elisabeth Belliveau is a Canadian artist and author of four graphic novels. Her animations have screened with Eyeworks Experimental Animation Festival in Brooklyn, LA and Chicago as well as at Anifest Prague, Melbourne Int. Animation Festival and Holland Int. Animation Festival. Elisabeth has attended residencies, including Banff Centre, WSW NY, Tokyo Wondersite, RAVI -Belgium and the National Film Board of Canada.
Her practice explores the genre of still life and vanitas; historically, conceptually and through new media approaches.

Here are some words from the artist herself.

Using stop-motion animation techniques, flowers and found objects are brought to life. Materials collected from the Itoshima area perform before the camera lens expressing their material potential. I seek to capture moments of transformation and material narratives, inspired by the art history tradition of still-life painting.
